Steve Santarsiero Issues Statement on Planned Parenthood Killings

Statement

Date: Nov. 28, 2015
Location: Morrisville, PA

Today, Pennsylvania state Representative and US Congressional candidate Steve Santarsiero issued a statement on the attack on Planned Parenthood in Colorado Springs yesterday:

It was with great sadness and a heavy heart that I learned of the armed attack on Planned Parenthood on Friday. My family and I are praying for officer Garrett Swasey, the other victims, and their families. As the explicit motives begin to crystalize, we certainly know what this looks like: an act of domestic terrorism.

This was not just an attack on Planned Parenthood -- an organization that provides critical services and health care to millions of Americans -- it's an attack on all of us. No matter your ideology, your partisan allegiance, or your stance on reproductive freedoms, this was an act of unconscionable savagery that must be condemned in the starkest terms.

In the coming days I will continue to stand with Planned Parenthood. Their mission must not be silenced and a woman's right to reproductive health cannot be threatened by armed brutality and terror. Additionally, I will continue to pursue common sense gun safety legislation in the Pennsylvania State House and champion the urgency for firearm reform during my campaign for US Congress. As these senseless acts of violence persist day after day and week after week, we must reach across party lines and work towards a solution that keeps wartime weaponry out of the hands of extremists and the mentally disturbed. We need the resolve to put partisanship aside and act to end these killings. Enough is enough.
